Good afternoon Canterbury Swim Team!

As promised, I would like to quickly recap the meet from the coaching staff’s perspective! We are so proud of everyone’s swims on Saturday! Canterbury had lots of swimmers trying new events, going best times, and even some swimming in their first swim meet ever. While we did not win the meet, it was still a success. Canterbury took first place in 7 out of the 10 relays against Burkwood, which to me, means that we’re the faster team, just not the bigger team. Canterbury had 6 Quad winners, 7 Triple winners, and over 100 swimmers who went a best time!

Before I continue, I would like to thank all the volunteers that helped run Saturday’s meet! I would like to specifically thank Mrs. Boyd, our amazing computer rep, who in addition to working from 5:45 am until after 3 pm (even though she didn’t have a swimmer at the meet), also skillfully handled a computer error GRAL made, which delayed the start of the meet. Additionally, I would like to thank all our older swimmers who helped with our 12 mite relays. While this job normally takes 15 minutes, these older swimmers stayed with our mites for almost an hour until they swam their relays! Thank you so much!

Green caps are given at the start of every meet to two swimmers who the coaches would like to recognize. The coaching staff awarded green caps to Caroline Smyers and Ethan Marr on Saturday.

• Caroline - For the past few weeks, Caroline’s maturity and positive attitude in practice have impressed the entire coaching staff. When we needed more older meet buddies, she immediately volunteered like a true team player.
• Ethan – He always listens to the coaches and immediately makes any changes they recommend, making him a very coachable swimmer.

Congratulations to both our green cap recipients!

Two team records were broken on Saturday:

• Aidan Duffy lowered his own 100 breaststroke record
• Lizzie Danforth, Patrick Madden, Zach Carroll and Aidan Duffy broke the senior 200 freestyle relays record formerly held by Emily Provenzo, Pat Lyons, Zach Carroll and Jack McSorley

The coaching staff would like to recognize all the swimmers who went a best time on Saturday! One of our goals for this summer is to focus on individual improvement. In practice, we are working with swimmers on improving their swimming technique and hope to see that improvement translate into meets as well. Please note, to go a best time, the swimmer must have legally swum the event in a meet last year and swam a faster time on Saturday.

The team’s biggest time drop come from Gabby Coleman, who dropped over 25 seconds in her 100 freestyle, way to go Gabby!
