Good morning Canterbury Swim Team!

Here is the recap from Meet 2:

The coaching staff is so proud of everyone’s swims this week. Across the board, we saw swimmers stepping up trying new races, going best times, and swimming REALLY fast. This week, Canterbury won an astonishing 9 out of 10 relay divisions against Hungary Creek, another testament to the speed of our swimmers. While I am proud of all our relay swims on Wednesday, I would like to recognize that last relay. Going into the meet, we all knew our Senior SV Medley Relay team that consisted of Coach Patrick, Aidan Duffy, Coach Lizzie, and Coach Zach would have a close race against Hungary Creek’s relay. In one of the closest relay swims I’ve seen, the race came down to the very last stroke with every spectator anxiously cheering on their relay teams. While Hungary Creek out touched us by .3 seconds, both teams broke the GRAL Record by 4 seconds, meaning in the history of GRAL, no relay has ever gone that fast and we witnessed two of them do it at the same time. I could not be more proud.

In addition to our stellar relay swims, Canterbury had 10 Quad winners, 10 Triple winners, and over 100 best times. Great job Canterbury!

Green caps are given at the start of every meet to two swimmers the coaches would like to recognize. The coaching staff awarded green caps to Erin Walters and Alec Orsi this week.

• Erin – Erin has amazed the coaching staff this week with her hard work and dedication in practice. Not only did she come to all 5 practices before the meet on Wednesday, she pushed herself in every practice and even volunteered to swim extra butterfly.
• Alec – Like Erin, Alec’s work ethic has also amazed the coaching staff this week. He volunteered to swim a 200 butterfly and won our “Champs Madness” Bracket on Tuesday afternoon. Besides being a hard worker, Alec is a leader in practice by encouraging others to listen and stay on task.

Clearly Erin and Alec’s hard work paid off on Wednesday as they both went 100% best times! Congratulations to our green cap recipients!

Three team records were broken on Wednesday:

Coach Lizzie broke her own 100 IM record with a time of 1:08.81

Aidan Duffy broke the 50 Breaststroke record held by Trip Templeman, who was the head coach six years ago, with a time of 31.03

Coach Patrick, Aidan Duffy, Coach Lizzie, and Coach Zach demolished the senior 200 medley relay record formerly held by Emily Provenzo, Noah Hull, Zach Carroll and Jack McSorley with a time of 1:52.44, beating the previous record by over 8 seconds. While Hungary Creek will get the GRAL record in this event, it is important to note that our relay also broke the GRAL Record by 4 seconds AND they have two more opportunities this season to drop .3 seconds and potentially break the record again!

The coaching staff would like to recognize all the swimmers who went a best time this meet! Our biggest drop goes to Harper Rashkind, whose hard work in practice paid off on Wednesday with a 38 second drop in the 50 backstroke! Awesome job Harper!

New this meet, we implemented a “Best Time Poster” for all swimmers to sign after they went a best time. The following swimmers should have signed the poster:
