Week One Recap
Dear Canterbury Swim Team,
The entire coaching staff could not be more excited that the season is finally underway. While this is not a “normal” season we fully believe that there is room for every swimmer to improve while having fun at the same time. The team looked great during the first week of practice and made a great first impression on our new coaches. As coaches, we are still getting adjusted to this new practice format and we want to thank all of the parents, and especially swimmers, for being patient while we try to give everyone the best practice experience we can with all the new regulations.
First Week Recap
- On Monday/Tuesday we got everyone in the water and aimed to get the swimmers adjusted to the new practice format of having only 18 swimmers in the water at a time.
- On Wednesday, the water was too cold (a first for middle of June) for our swimmers to get in. I attempted to notify the team on Rained Out but am unfamiliar with the system and the message wasn’t sent properly. I apologize for not notifying our parents and want to thank you all for your patience and understanding. I have since figured out how to correctly use Rained Out.
- On Thursday/Friday we kicked it up a little bit and focused on freestyle technique with a little bit of fast swimming at the end of practice.
Second Week Announcements
- Coach Lizzie is returning to help out with our 9-10 year old’s, 13-14 year old’s, and 15 and up swimmers!!!
- With no meets on the schedule, the coaches have decided that the last day of practice each week for each age group will have a theme. On Thursday/Friday, the theme will be Blue and Green, our team colors. We encourage all swimmers to dress up according to the theme and show their team spirit.
- Next week we plan to work on backstroke with everyone. For some older swimmers who do not yet know all four strokes, we plan on introducing butterfly or breaststroke to them.
Social Events
- Currently there are no social events on the calendar; however, the coaches are thinking of ideas we could do with the team that still keep everyone safe. If you have any suggestions please reach out to me.
Meets
- With no meets on the schedule the coaches still want a way to measure growth within our team. We are looking into doing intraclub meets instead of a practice certain days to measure our swimmer’s growth. More information will be sent out next week regarding our new “meets”.
If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me at [email protected].
Once again, thank you all for putting your faith in us during this hard time. I am looking forward to a great season. GO CROCS!
Very Respectfully,
Coach Zach
