Week 2 Information and Updated Practice Times Starting May 31st
Dear Canterbury Swim Team,
All the coaches were very impressed with everyone's effort this past week. We saw lots of hard work from all the groups. This week we will continue getting our swimmers adjusted to swimming again and look forward to another productive week. Below are a couple of announcements regarding practice times starting May 31st and new swimmer evaluations.
Updated Practice Times
Starting May 31st these will be the new practice times:
4:30 pm - 5:15 pm: Mites (8 and under)
5:15 pm - 6:00 pm: Midgets (9-10)
6:00 pm - 6:45 pm: Junior (11-12)
6:45 pm - 7:30 pm: Intermediates (13-14) and Seniors (15-18)
As of right now, parents will be allowed on deck during these practices. Please note this is a change from previous emails.
New Canterbury Swimmer Information
We will have our evaluation day for all our first year swimmers on Thursday, May 27th. Swimmers will either be recommended for the team or Hatchlings, our swim lesson program designed to prepare swimmers for the team. Swimmers will be evaluated on the following standards.
- Swimmers must complete a 25 freestyle in under 75 seconds without any help from coaches. Swimmers must use full freestyle strokes and not doggy paddle. Breaks on the wall and lane line are permitted as long as the swimmer does not use them to propel themselves forward.
- Swimmers must complete a 25 backstroke or backstroke kick in under 90 seconds while staying on their back the entire time without taking a break on the lane lines or wall.
- Swimmers who do not meet these standards will be recommended for hatchlings. This program is specifically designed to prepare swimmers for the swim team. As soon as a hatchling swimmer passes the “stroke” level they will be allowed to join the team and swim in any remaining meets.
- These standards are in place in order to ensure the safety of all swimmers during practice and to allow the coaching staff to focus on improving technique instead of teaching basic swimming skills taught in hatchlings.
If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me at [email protected] or come talk to me at the beginning/end of any practice.
GO CROCS
Very Respectfully,
Coach Zach
