Dear Canterbury Swim Team,

What a meet last night! I hope everyone had as much fun as the coaches did- it was exhilarating to watch all those first time Champs cuts and close races all around. We had 9 swimmers get their first champs cut and we brought our cheering A-game to the meet which helped us score the win against Wyndham. Nice job everyone!

Three team records were broken last night- Kate Hotem beat her own record in the 50 backstroke (32.34), as well as taking down the 13-14 100 freestyle record from 2003 by a whole second (1:02.78); and the 11-12 Freestyle Relay (Elizabeth Cribbs, Anne Reagan Eakes, Hugh Harrell, Maddie Bynum) beat the previous 2017 record by more than a second as well (2:06.19). Congrats Crocs!

Coach Highlights:

Coach Patrick- My favorite swim was Mark Maiden’s 50 breaststroke. Mark has been close to making Champs in almost every single event and he finally got it in this one. It was so much fun to cheer him on!

Coach Claire: “I was so happy for Virginia Clarke- her first champs cut this year in the 50 breaststroke. So excited for her, she’s worked so hard and has earned it. Shoutout to Ruby Clarke too!”

Coach Lauren: “Matthew Dunn got three new champs cuts at the meet, all three being his first ones this season. He was on fire!”

Coach Aidan: “I got to say Declan Mullis’s 100 freestyle- he crushed that JV time and punched his ticket to Champs. Way to go Declan”

Coach Jack: “Lila Weeks and Virginia Clarke’s 50 Breaststroke- they both pushed each other to both go best times and qualify for champs. It demonstrated how teammates can work together to make everyone better.”

Coach Emily: “Ruby Clarke’s 50 breaststroke- she never gave up and had a great dive and two hand touch. Can’t wait to see how fast she’ll swim at Champs!”
