Meet 2 Recap and Announcements
Good Afternoon Crocs,
Canterbury had a great meet against Burkwood on Wednesday. While we were not able to pull out a win, I think everyone is a winner because we were the only team that had a meet that night due to the storms and ended at 10 pm. On top of all that we had a bunch of swimmers go best times, try new events, and get new champs cuts. Congratulations everyone! Before we get to green caps and coaches highlights there are a few announcements regarding the Green out meet and Dunk Hunger.

Green Out Meet
At our next meet we will be celebrating the life of our own sweet Lucia Bremer. We will be having a green out meet and will participate in the Dunk Hunger campaign which benefits FeedMore. In the past 15 months Canterbury Recreation Association and Liberty Tree Farm have been working together to put an end to hunger. In light of this we will be taking any GREEN food donation on the day of the meet and will be accepting GREEN cash donations that will go to support the Dunk Hunger Campaign and FeedMore.
Dunk Hunger
A few seniors on our team are kindly running dunk hunger this year. Please see their note below.
“My name is William Bremer, and I am a rising junior at Godwin High School. This summer I am working with two fellow swimmers, Eleanor Cribbs and Josh Zebley, and Coach Zach to continue an annual service project for our swim team called Dunk Hunger. The Dunk Hunger project aims to collect food and raise funds to contribute to Feed More, a local organization that helps with hunger relief in Central Virginia. For every dollar collected, Feed More can provide 4 meals!
We are asking for your help to make this year’s food drive both fun and successful. At every home meet, we will have bins available to collect canned goods and boxes to collect cash donations. These bins and boxes will be divided by age group: 8 and under, 9-12, and 13 and older. We know that each meet has a theme, and our Dunk Hunger drive will go along with that theme in some way. This week, since the theme of the meet is Green Out, we’d like to ask our Crocs to focus on contributing cans of green vegetables….or green ca$h! The age group that raises the most will win Tootsie Pops after a practice. Good luck at the swim meet, and let’s Dunk Hunger!”
Green Caps
Bradley Parker – Bradley has been to every practice since the last
swim meet and has continuously worked hard in practice. He listens to the
coaches and truly tries to better himself every time he’s in the water.
Libby Collier – Libby has worked hard all summer at practice. The first time
the 100 IM was offered she stepped up to do it even though she had never done
one before. The coaches were so proud of Libby for her confident choice.
Coaches Highlights
Coach Zach – My favorite swim of the meet was Rose Cimino’s 25 backstroke. This was her very first event ever. Even though she was a little nervous before her swim she did a great job and it was so cool to see her succeed on her first swim ever!
Coach Claire – My swim of the meet is Evie Kirillin 25 breaststroke. She swam 25 breaststroke this week after unfortunately getting DQ’d last meet but she made sure to ask me what she got DQ’d for and we talked about it and worked on breaststroke a lot to prepare for this meet. She listens so well and I always know when I talk to her or ask her to fix something or do something she does it! She was so excited to swim it this week. She did amazing and I’m super proud of her effort, confidence and the willingness to learn from a mistake and try again!
Coach Lizzie – My fav swim was opal shea 25 fly, she swam it for the first time and was so confident
Coach Aidan – Mary Colliers 100 IM is my swim of the meet. She won her heat with an amazing comeback on the last lap. She also dropped 25 seconds!
Coach Emily – My highlight of the meet was when Kinleigh Earle stepped up to swim backstroke on an 8 and under relay and absolutely crushed it! I’m so proud of her for helping her teammates by taking on an extra event with such short notice!
Coach Savannah – My favorite swim was Dylan Gurley’s 25 backstroke. He came into the wall super fast and got first place and was so excited he won and ran right over to his parents. I know he had been working hard in practice so I was happy he was able to get that first place.
Records
Maddie Bynum – Maddie broke two more team records this year. She broke the 11-12 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.65 seconds and the 100 IM with a time of 1:03.13. Congrats Maddie!
Hugh Harrell – Hugh broke the Canterbury record AND the Gral record in the 11-12 50 yard breast with a time of 31.53. He also broke the team record in the 50 fly with a time of 27.44 and the 100 IM with a time of 1:01.91. Congrats Hugh!
Lane Jacobs, Hugh Harrell, Drew Hotem, Maddie Bynum – This 11-12 200 yard medley relay broke another team AND Gral record with a time of 1:59.56. Congrats, I am excited for them to get even more records this year!
