Meet 3 Recap
Good
Morning Canterbury Swim Team,
Congratulations
on a great first home meet and a win against Raintree. We had a bunch of fast
swims and were able to win 6/10 relays this meet. I want to give a huge
shoutout to all the volunteers who helped the meet run smoothly and on schedule
for our first home meet. On top of the fast swimming, we also raised 5,337
meals in our first Dunk Hunger food drive of the summer.

Our Dunk
Hunger volunteers, William Bremer, Josh Zebley, and Elanor Cribbs, did a
fantastic job running Dunk Hunger this week. In total 5,337 meals were raised
with the 8 and under swimmers raising 1,029 meals, the 9-12 swimmers raising 1,485
meals, and the 13 and over swimmers raising a massive 2,823 meals. The 13 and over
swimmers who missed practice on Friday can get their tootsie pop reward at
practice Tuesday. I am extremely proud of the entire team, and especially our
Dunk Hunger volunteers for this outcome, proving that Canterbury is so much
more than just swimming.
Green
Caps
Ellie Becker – Ellie has not missed a single practice the past
few weeks and is constantly trying to get better. She always chooses to do the
harder sets when offered and consistently encourages her fellow swimmers. Great
work Ellie!
Patrick Verdi – Even though this is Patrick’s first year on the
team he practices like a veteran. He is incredibly kind to his teammates,
listens intently to the coaches, and always tries to get better. Congratulations
Patrick!
Coaches Highlights
Coach Zach – My highlight was Claire Campeau’s 25 breast. She
had been working so hard at practice and swam breaststroke for the first time
ever in a meet. The coaches were all so proud of her hard work paying off!
Coach Claire - For my swim of
the meet I’m going to have to go Addie Palmer for stepping up and swimming in a
relay at the last minute and she did awesome! I went up to her and said you are
now in a relay is that ok and are you able to stay and she did and she was not
upset and she did her best on it. I was proud of her for stepping up and
getting the job done. She did an awesome job of stepping up when we needed her
and I think that’s a really great thing!
Coach Lizzie - My
highlight is the girls 9-10 50 back, it was a very close race between Kate Francis
and Jane Eldred. So fun watching them push each other the whole way.
Coach Aidan -
My Highlight goes to Hudson Spigelmyer and his 25 Breaststroke. Hudson has been
working really hard in practice on his breaststroke. We timed him during
practice and he went a best time, so we knew he could do it in the meet. Hudson
dropped 11 seconds, crushing his previous personal best and got the JV time!
Good Job Hudson!
Coach Savannah - My swim of the
meet would be Lilianna’s 100 freestyle because it was her first time swimming
it and she didn’t think she could do the whole thing but she got in the water
and swam the whole thing and did amazing!
Coach Emily - My highlight of
the meet was Gwyneth Hershey’s 50 breaststroke! Despite being nervous because
it was her first time swimming the event, Gwyneth overcame her fear and swam an
amazing, legal 50 breaststroke!
Records
Hugh Harrell broke another team record this week in the 11-12 50
meter butterfly with a time of 30.60 seconds. So far Hugh has broken at least
one record at every meet this year, keep up the good work!
