Meet #3 Recap
Good Evening Crocs!
We brought home our second team win of the season at Ashland last night! The beautiful weather and awesome swimming in an 8 lane pool, combined with our Green Out theme for Lucia Bremer made it a night to remember. The support, team spirit, and sportsmanship are at the heart of what makes the Canterbury swim team so special. It was an all around wonderful meet and the coaches couldn't be more proud of the way we represented Canterbury as a team last night!
GRAL Rule Reminder/Policy- NO drawings, writing, or body glitter/paint
Per GRAL policy, please be reminded that there is absolutely no writing on the body other than meet events on arm or hand, and that of dive markings of X or O. We cannot have words or writing on backs, arms, or legs on meet day. We also cannot continue the old tradition of using glitter or body paint during a meet. I understand it is a thing that has been done in the past. However this league policy was put into place to help prevent it messing up chemicals in a pool, as well as avoid furniture being damaged on each pool deck. Please do not bring any of glitter to meets going forward as wearing it last night caused many to be sent away from the Clerk of Course until the glitter was washed off in the bathroom. This could have caused swimmers to miss races and would have impacted the final team score. If you have questions, please feel free to talk with me directly.
Green Caps
Green Caps are given at the start of every meet to a few swimmers who the coaches would like to recognize for their performance in practice, sportsmanship, and team spirit throughout the past week. This week the coaches recognized Kinleigh Earle (9), Owen Marr (12), and Shea Elmquist (14)!
Kinleigh – Kinleigh has been working hard over the past week at practices. From working on her flipturns to perfecting her dive so that her goggles don't leak, she's taken the coaches advice well. It is great to see her growth as a swimmer this season so far especially as she just moved into a new age group this summer!
Owen – Owen always comes into practice with a smile and a positive attitude. He is hardworking, open minded, and kind during every practice! He swims any event he's put in at meets and always makes an effort to stop by the coaches and say thank you before leaving! We appreciate the thoughtful person he is in and out of the pool :)
Shea – Shea is new to the Canterbury team and sport of swimming this summer. Her dedication to learning the four strokes and her commitment to coming to practices every day shows with all that she has accomplished already this season! She is always listening in practice and working to perfect the details of her stroke technique more every day. It is so exciting to watch what she does in every new race she swims!
Coaches Highlights
Coach Lauren – “I'd like to highlight Bradley Shea and Opal Shea as both had great focus and determination that is reflected in their tremendous time drops last night. Bradley dropped 15 seconds in his 100 free, then later dropped another 8 seconds in his 50 butterfly! Opal dropped 6 seconds last night in her 50 breast and then swam her first 50 butterfly ever! Awesome job, Bradley and Opal!"
Coach Kate - “My swimmer of the meet is Hudson Spigelmyer! He swam 2 new events and also earned 2 new champs cuts! He has been working very hard in practice and is always smiling/having fun! Way to go Hudson!"
Coach Eleanor - “I loved watching Eve Zwerdling try 3 new events! She did her first relay, 50 free, and 25 fly. She had a positive attitude and was always smiling the whole night even though she was nervous!"
Coach Emily - “I want to highlight Aurora Weeks for the incredible work she has been putting in at practice. It is showing because she has had amazing time drops in EVERY EVENT from all three meets so far this season!"
Coach Savannah - “I want to acknowledge Rose Cimino as she had an amazing 25 freestyle in her relay and helped the team to catch up to the Ashland relay! She has been putting in awesome work with her dive and it's really been paying off!"
Coach William- "I want to give my shout out to Isaac and Jordie White for their awesome 25 back and free swims. They both worked very hard to get to that ability level and I cannot wait to see what else they will be able to do by the end of the season!"
Congratulations everyone on a great meet! You can see the meet results once they are posted on the meet information on the GRAL website. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to email me at [email protected].
Meet #4 Theme- Jersey/Sports Team Wear!
The theme will be Jerseys/Sports Team Spirit Wear to celebrate the life of Julia Budzinski. Let's show our Canterbury pride and support by showing up in theme :)
Availability/Event Notes on Swimtopia
Thank you for your support with declaring your swimmer(s) attendance at each meet but specifically with these last three remaining meets of this season. We were able to get 27 different team relays swum yesterday night because of this great level of communication! Please continue that and if you have relay or event request, please mark them for Meet #4 by tomorrow evening, June 30! If you have questions or need help, please email me directly at [email protected].
GO CROCS!
Sincerely,
