Meet #3 Recap
Good Afternoon Crocs!
I want to first thank everyone on a meet last night! While we ended up short of a team win, the efforts of everyone in attendance were clear. I appreciate the large showing of SUPERHERO spirit, sportsmanship, and racing efforts in the pool. We are proud of the hard work that could be seen both in and out of the water last night even though it was a hot one! On that note, please see below for a couple of important notes as we approach our last three dual meets of this season.
Availability
Given that this is a team sport it is absolutely critical that I have accurate attendance lists prior to doing entries for each meet. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes to make sure the team is in the best position to have the correct individual swims, relay team swims, and the best chance of the team scoring as many points as possible. If you would like to request an event for your swimmer(s), need to arrive after warm-ups, or cannot stay late for a relay, all of that can be communicated through the website by adding a comment or emailing me directly at [email protected] prior to the deadline on Fridays each week. If there is an illness or family emergency the day of the meet, you must text or call me at (434)238-0284. I cannot check my email on top of managing so many other things at the meet. Please also do not send a carrier pigeon to give a message to me-communicate directly with me. We are a team and can only be the most successful if we all work together! When people scratch last minute or don't show up, it impacts our team and our relays tremendously. I know sometimes this is unavoidable but lately it has been taking away from my ability to focus on the team and relays at the end of meets when there are lots of last minute changes.
Relay Cards for Swimmers 9 and Older
Please read this to your swimmer(s) who are 9 years of age or older. It has come to my attention that our older swimmers have been biting, chewing, eating, and tearing up the paper relay cards that are used to record official times at the end of the meet. This is supposedly being done in an effort to have good luck. There were too many examples of this specifically at our meet last night. This is NOT ACCEPTABLE at any point or for any reason. Swimmers are encouraged to come up with a relay handshake, pump up speech, or a cheer to get excited for their relay if they would like to while waiting at the clerk of course. However the relay cards are not to be damaged in any way. Going forward, the coaching staff will be keeping a close eye on this situation at meets and anyone who continues to damage cards will be taken out of relays for the rest of the season. This is disrespectful to the volunteer workers at meets and therefore, will not be tolerated going forward. If you have questions or want to discuss further, please email me or talk to me at the pool.
Green Caps
Green Caps are given at the start of every meet to a few swimmers who the coaches would like to recognize for their performance in practice, sportsmanship, and team spirit throughout the past week. Given the warm-up time last night and clerk calling first relay immediately after, we didn't get to announce these swimmers this week unfortunately. This week the coaches want to recognize Caroline Suwal (6) and Bradley Shea (13)
Caroline – Caroline gives 110 percent effort every time she is in the pool working on her swimming. She has been doing an amazing job of working on all four strokes in her first season on the team. She also is a terrific teammate with the way she supports other swimmers on the team and coaches at practice/meets! Way to go, Caroline!
Bradley– Bradley moved up this season and has really shown tremendous growth as he's adapts to longer swims! He takes feedback from the coaches to constantly work on improving in practice/meets. He has consistently been dropping time at meets and earning himself some heat wins. Keep it up, Bradley!
Coaches Highlights
Coach Lauren - “It was nearly impossible for me to pick a swim of the meet from last night as there were so many amazing swims across the team. However, my shout outs are going to Gil Smith in the 100 freestyle and Liam Garcia Whitlock for in the 50 freestyle. Both boys have been working incredibly hard at practices and it was awesome to see them both swim with confidence and strength in their races last night even though it was their first time swimming in these longer events!"
Coach Aurora - “My swim of the meet goes to Riley Lynch for her excellent 100 breaststroke swim! She has been working hard at practice, often coming in both the morning and afternoon, and this hard work paid off at the meet. She dropped almost 2 seconds to swim a champs qualifying time!"
Coach Ellie - "My swim of the meet goes to Charlotte Fisher! She swam all of her races to the best of her ability and won all 3 of her heats in individual events. Charlotte has been working very hard in practice and she implemented her improved technique in all of her races, especially her 100 free! Great work, Charlotte!"
Coach Steph - “Great meet last night, Crocs! My swim of the meet goes to Eliza Marshall for her outstanding 50 breaststroke. Eliza has been putting in the work all season, and I'm incredibly proud of how far she's come. Last night she dropped nearly a full second off her time, earning her a Champs cut. I can't wait to see what she accomplishes next!"
