Meet #2 Recap against Burkwood
Good Evening Crocs,
Wow- what a great second meet against Burkwood last night! The coaching staff is proud of the first time swims, constant display of team spirit/support, and huge time drops we had in all age groups! While many kids have expressed disappointment in not coming away with a win last night, swim meets are about way more than winning/losing the meet or a specific race. To me, summer league is about so much more than our season record- its about having fun, improving individual times, increasing swimming skills/understanding, displaying positive/good sportsmanship, and enjoying spending time with friends/teammates along the way. Last night we also had a record low amount of disqualifications! We are doing amazing things both in and out of the water! We have 4 more dual meets this summer- LET'S GO CROCS!
Please read below and let me know if you have any questions! Reminder that our meet at home against Church Run is next Wednesday, July 17, so remember to check your RSVP by tomorrow so I can get entries ready this weekend :) Church Run is another big team so it would be amazing to have as many swimmers as we can at the meet! Also, don't forget about TIE DYE after your swim practice time tomorrow- bring a white shirt or accessory to tie dye!
Green Caps
Green Caps are given at the start of every meet to a few swimmers who the coaches would like to recognize for their performance in practice, sportsmanship, and team spirit throughout the past week. This week the coaches recognized Henry Zwerdling (14) and Meredith McDearmon (11)!
Henry – "Henry is a wonderful swimmer, teammate, and person. He consistently goes out of his way to work hard and do his best in all that he does in/out of the pool. His positivity is amazing and the coaching staff acknowledges how much we appreciate his strong/consistent work ethic on the team! Way to go, Henry!"
Meredith – "We are so happy to have Meredith back as a member of the Canterbury swim team this year! Not only is she fun to watch race anytime she is swimming in the pool, it is even more amazing to see the support she has for her teammates at practice/meets. Her love for swimming, ability to race, use of positive words/cheering and high fives to everyone she's around make the coaching staff proud! Keep it up, Meredith!"
Coaches Highlights from Meet #2
Coach Aurora - “My swim of the meet goes to Riley Lynch for her 50 breaststroke! She had an amazing swim , dropping time, and getting her first CHAMPS cut of the season. Way to go, Riley!"
Coach Ellie - “My swim of the meet goes to Lainey Gurley for her 25 breast! Not only did she drop time in her event but she also made CHAMPS! We are so proud of her hard work in practice and effort in the meet last night! Way to go Lainey!"
Coach Kate - “My swim of the meet goes to Mary Collier's 100 fly! She crushed her first ever 100 fly by also getting her first ever CHAMPS cut! She's such a hard worker as well as a positive, uplifting influence on her teammates, and we couldn't be happier for her! Congrats, Mary!"
Coach Lauren – “My swim of the meet goes to Clara Weir for her incredible 50 fly last night! It's always awesome to watch her love for the water and butterfly swims at meets! While a lot of people try to avoid swimming fly, Clara loves it and truly shined from start to finish last night in this race. Amazing job, Clara!"
Coach Steph- "My swim of the meet goes to Wes Horn for his 100 free! This week he was a little nervous for this event, but he absolutely CRUSHED it, dropping 15 seconds off his time from last year. We are so proud of the work that Wes puts in every week and can't wait to see what this season brings for him. Great job, Wes!"
Coach William- "My swim of the meet goes to Bradley Shea for his awesome swim in the 100 back last night. He looked really speedy in the water and dropped 8 seconds earning him an advanced time! Way to go, Bradley!"
