DUNK HUNGER COMPETITION
Dear Canterbury Families,
Tomorrow’s first home meet officially marks the start of our Dunk Hunger food drive for FeedMore’s Central Virginia Food Bank. Through Dunk Hunger, Richmond-area swim teams compete to raise money and collect food for families in need. The team that collects the most food and raises the most money by August 31 will receive a $1,000 cash prize! Over the past five years, Canterbury has raised over 150,000 meals for families in need. In order to continue Canterbury’s success, I need your help!
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Colin Schmidt. I started swimming at Canterbury when I was 7. I swam for the Tuckahoe YMCA Tigersharks and then joined NOVA’s swim team when I was 9. I am a rising Freshman at J.R. Tucker High School's International Baccalaureate (IB) Program. As a Moody Middle School IB student, I was very involved with community service projects and am excited to support Dunk Hunger this summer.
We will host a team-friendly competition at each of our home meets this season. Tomorrow’s competition is BOYS vs. GIRLS. A table will be set up outside the pool with bins to collect money and food ($1 = 5 pounds of food!). The group that raises the most money and collects the most food* will be rewarded with 15-minutes of sharks and minnows at the end of practice on Friday, 6/30, followed by popsicles!
I have scheduled “spirit nights” at local restaurants to raise money for Dunk Hunger and will send more information about each event as we get closer. The events so far are:
Tuesday, July 11 at Glory Days Grill (10466 Ridgefield Pkwy, Richmond, VA 23233). Glory Days will donate 10% of food (excluding daily specials) and non-alcoholic beverages for all sales that day.
Monday, July 24 at Chipotle from 5:00-9:00pm (Innsbrook location, 10501 West Broad St, Glen Allen, VA 23060). Chipotle will donate 50% of all sales that night.
I look forward to a great summer and collecting lots of money and food for families in need throughout the Richmond area. Go Crocs!
